What is Vitamin



Vitamins are nutrients that our body needs in small amounts to function properly, vitamins are also found in small amounts in foods, so they are classified as micro-nutrient. Vitamins are essential for the growth and development of our body. vitamins act as catalytic and regulatory in our body and they control and facilitate important chemical reactions in the body's cells. vitamins are also helpful in the absorption of many other nutrients in our body, the number of vitamins required for us is 13, all these 13 vitamins have different functions in the body and they control different functions in the body. when there is deficiency of any vitamin in the body, diseases related to the action of that vitamin are done, similarly, if there is excess of any vitamin in the body, then related diseases are also caused, therefore it is very important to take any vitamin in balanced quantity.

Types of Vitamin

There are two types of vitamins: - (1) Fat Soluble Vitamins (2) Water Soluble Vitamins

Uses of Fat Soluble Vitamins 

Vitamins A, D, E and K are a total of 4 fat soluble vitamins. These vitamins do not dissolve in water, so when we take these vitamins, then in addition to our requirement, vitamins are stored in our body fatty tissues and liver, and when our food is deficient in these vitamins then our body uses these stored vitamins, in this way, we are constantly getting these vitamins.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin. It helps in the growth and development of bones, healthy teeth, eyesight, mucous membranes, fertility and skin tissue in our body.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, it is the only vitamin that is made by our body when exposed to sunlight. It is very difficult to get vitamin D from foods, so people who do not live in sunny places and who are not exposed to much sun can have vitamin D deficiency. Spending just 15 minutes daily in sunlight makes enough vitamin D in our body, Vitamin D helps in the absorption of Calcium in our body, therefore Vitamin D is necessary for normal development of teeth and bones. Vitamin D is also very important for maintaining proper levels of calcium and phosphorus in our blood.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin, it is an antioxidant, it destroys the free radicals that damage the cells in our body and it also increases our immunity. Our body needs vitamin E to interconnect cells. Apart from these, vitamin E plays an important role in the formation of red blood cells.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin, it acts as a blood clot in our body. When the blood starts coming out due to scratches or wounds on our body, then due to vitamin K, blood clot forms and stops bleeding.

Uses of water soluble vitamins


There are a total of 9 vitamins soluble in water, these vitamins are stored in very small amounts by the body and in addition to our daily needs, vitamins are flushed out of our body by urine, so to avoid the lack of water soluble vitamins They have to be taken regularly. Vitamin B12 is the only water soluble vitamin that is stored in our liver and can be used by the body for a long time.

Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)

Vitamin B1 is a water-soluble vitamin, it acts in our body to convert carbohydrates into energy, it is also necessary for the metabolism of glucose. Vitamin B1 is very important for the functioning and health of the nervous system, muscles and heart.

Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)

Vitamin B2 is a water-soluble vitamin, it helps to produce energy by converting proteins, fats and carbohydrates into ATP molecules in our body, it also plays an important role in the formation of red blood cells.

Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

Vitamin B3 is a water-soluble vitamin. It works by converting the food we consume into energy and is essential for the good health of the digestive system, nervous system, brain, and skin in our body.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid)

Vitamin B5 also works to convert carbohydrates, proteins, and fats into energy in the body and it helps in making blood cells, besides it also plays an important role in hormone and cholesterol formation.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)

Vitamin B6 is necessary for the health of the nervous system and brain, it makes the protein useful for our body, the more protein we eat, the more vitamin B6 we need to make it useful for the body. In addition, it keeps the skin and red blood cells healthy.

Vitamin B9 (Folate)

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)

Vitamin B12 is also helpful in energy production by nutrients in the body, besides it is essential for the formation of DNA and red blood cells and for the health of the nervous system.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps in the absorption of iron in the body, Vitamin C helps in the formation of skin, tendons, and blood vessels, it is necessary for the good health of bones, teeth, and gums, it also helps in healing wounds quickly.
